Course Outline

The Passenger Assistance/Motor Vehicle Operation course has been designed so the trainer may teach it in three (3) major modules which may be offered in steps to aid in scheduling training within the facility:

MODULE 1: A "how-to" in training others in basic passenger assistance techniques for day-to-day resident contact. Time Frame: 4.25 to 5 hours

MODULE 2: The participant will receive instruction in advanced passenger assistance techniques including the use of wheelchair lifts and the securement systems in vehicles. Time Frame: 4-5 hours

MODULE 3 - MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATION: The participant will receive instruction in safety, defensive driving, pre & post-trip inspections, and other information needed as well as how to communicate to those responsible for transporting residents. Time Frame: 6.5 to 9 hours.

MODULE 4 - FACILITY SPECIFIC UPDATE: Allows facilities to transfer certificates with minimal update training.

This course covers all requirements of the August 2000 Transportation Regulation in State Licensing Rules.

This streamlined presentation will provide staff with the materials and information to put together a passenger assistance training program at the facility level.
